Shopify -- Tally Prime

Sync Shopify orders into Tally Prime, correctly.

Tally Prime's documented integration interface accepts XML or JSON over HTTP from a running Tally instance. Ledgeree uses a local relay agent to connect that interface without exposing the Tally port publicly.

A Shopify order passing securely through a local relay into a Tally-style accounting ledger
How it connects

Built for Tally Prime specifically.

A small local relay agent, not a cloud connector

Install a lightweight agent on the machine running Tally Prime. It talks to Tally directly over your own network -- your ledger data never needs to leave your machine to reach a third-party server.

Works with Desktop, Tally on Cloud, or AWS Cloud Access

Whichever way you run Tally Prime, the agent connects the same way -- over Tally's own local XML/HTTP gateway.

B2B ledgers created automatically

The moment a B2B order arrives, its dedicated Sundry Debtor ledger is created in Tally on the fly -- keyed by GSTIN, never duplicated.

Before you connect

What the Tally Prime setup requires.

A current Tally Prime installation with the local XML/HTTP integration interface enabled
A Windows machine that can reach the intended Tally instance over the local network
Tally Prime running when queued vouchers are ready to post
A licensed company for real voucher writes; demo or educational mode is blocked
GST registrations, warehouse states, ledgers and product tax rates ready to map
What actually posts

Every voucher type you’d expect.

Daily Sales vouchers

One per state per day (or per fulfillment for B2B/export orders), correctly split into CGST+SGST or IGST, spanning multiple GST rates within the same voucher when needed.

Sales Return vouchers

Post-ship returns book against a dedicated Sales Return ledger, on the return date's own state -- never a silent reversal.

B2B & export vouchers

Routed to their own dedicated ledgers, kept out of your regular B2C Sales entirely.

Itemized inventory lines (optional)

Turn on itemized billing to post each SKU as its own Stock Item line, auto-mapped against your real Tally Stock Item list.

All of this shares the same GST-correctness engine described in full on the features page.

Worked posting example

See classification and ledger presentation together.

Switch between GST scenarios and choose whether shipping and discounts post as separate ledger lines. The example keeps taxable value and tax constant while changing presentation.

Voucher presentation

Ledger separation follows the merchant’s configured posting settings; taxable value and GST remain ₹9,500 and ₹1,710 in every view.

Shopify input

Karnataka → Karnataka · ₹10,000 products · ₹500 shipping · ₹1,000 discount

The ship-from and ship-to states match, so 18% GST is split equally between CGST and SGST.

Taxable value ₹9,500Order total ₹11,210

Accounting output

  • Sales ₹10,000
  • Shipping income ₹500
  • Discount allowed −₹1,000
  • Output CGST ₹855
  • Output SGST ₹855
  • Customer / debtor ₹11,210
Day-to-day operation

What happens beyond the happy path.

Offline is recoverable

If the machine or Tally is offline, the job remains visible and retries after connectivity returns; it is not marked as posted.

Multiple companies and ports

Company-name patterns and configured ports route work to the intended Tally company, including financial-year rollover setups.

Local boundary

The relay initiates the connection and talks to Tally on the merchant's network. No publicly reachable Tally port is required.

Review before live mode

Test mode can target a sandbox company so ledger mappings and voucher shape can be checked before posting to production books.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need to keep Tally open all the time?+

The relay agent needs Tally Prime running (with its local gateway reachable) at the time a sync job runs. If Tally is closed, the push is retried automatically once it's back.

Does this work if I run multiple Tally companies or instances?+

Yes -- multi-instance/multi-port routing probes and posts to the correct Tally instance automatically, and a financial-year rollover pattern can route vouchers to a new company each FY without manual switching.

What if my Tally company isn't licensed yet?+

A voucher write is refused outright against a Tally instance running in demo/educational mode -- so you find out immediately, not after weeks of vouchers that silently never actually saved.

How the connection is supported

The connection model follows the accounting platform’s published integration method. See Tally’s XML integration documentation. Product behaviour described on this page refers to Ledgeree’s implementation; merchants should review posting configuration with their accountant.
